Pediatric dentistry

Pediatric dentistry is the specialty that takes care of the dental health of children

Contrary to what many people think, it is important to start children’s dental health carefrom the eruption of the first tooth. The first visit to the dentist should be at 12 months of age where the pediatric dentist will make a complete evaluation of the child’s oral health, apply fluoride and make pertinent recommendations.

Some of the treatments children may need are:

Cleaning: it is done to remove plaque and tartar helping to prevent cavities, diseases, and bad breath. At the end, the dentist applies fluoride, which will help reduce the risk of developing cavities and have a healthy mouth.

Sealants: to protect the surface of molars and premolars, acting as a barrier, protecting tooth enamel from plaque and acid accumulation.

Composites: to restore damaged or decayed teeth and help correct fissures or cracks.

Extractions: to remove baby teeth once they can no longer be restored either due to extensive decay, fracture or to facilitate the emergence of permanent teeth.

Orthopedics: to correct bad habits (such as thumb sucking), create space for teeth that must come out, simplify or prevent orthodontic treatments, and reduce or eliminate breathing or speech problems.
