Orthodontic

Orthodontic dentistry is a specialty field of dentistry that diagnoses and corrects structural misalignments and irregularities in the teeth and jaw.

Orthodontic treatment is not only done to correct cosmetic problems. The main reason for this treatment is to improve the occlusion (bite) to avoid future problems. Similarly, aligning teeth reduces the possibility of cavities and gum disease because they are easier to clean.

How does orthodontics work? In this type of treatment, various types of appliances, both fixed and removable, are used to produce dental movements, and modify the growth of the upper and lower jaws. These appliances work by applying gentle pressure to the bone surrounding the tooth, reshaping it and generating orthodontic movement. Depending on the patient’s need, the type of equipment to be used will be selected. Some types of devices are:

  • Fixed space retainers.
  • Aligners.
  • Special fixed appliances.
  • Conventional metallic and aesthetic brackets.
  • Self-ligating metallic and aesthetic brackets.
  • Invisible guards.

How long does an orthodontic treatment last?

The duration of orthodontic treatment will depend on the severity of the case and the perseverance of the patient in attending their follow-up appointments. The duration of the treatment ranges from 6 to 24 months approximately.

Invisalign

Invisible aligners are orthodontic guards that correct dental malposition while improving the bite. They are comfortable and practically imperceptible. They do not require bracket cementation. This type of technique is just as effective as other types of orthodontics and more predictable thanks to its digital planning. In this, a sequence of all the movements will be carried out during the treatment, week by week with each aligner.
