Endodontics
Endodontics, also known as root canal treatment, is a procedure that consists of removing the nerve of the tooth, cleaning and disinfecting the canal that housed that nerve, and the placement of a sealing material that prevents the infiltration of bacteria from the mouth to the tissues surrounding the tooth.
This procedure is done for several reasons, including: the presence of a cavity that has reached the nerve; the fracture of a tooth that involves the space where the nerve is lodged; and the need to place certain type of prosthesis.
Is root canal a painful treatment?
Advances in technology allow endodontics to be a painless procedure today. The only discomfort that the patient refers to is the one that corresponds to the placement of the anesthesia injection.
