Periodontics and Implants

Periodontics is the dental specialty that treats diseases of the tooth’s supporting tissues: bone and gums. Poor hygiene favors the appearance of bacteria plaques that can accumulate under the gum. The gums become inflamed due to the infection caused and a disease called gingivitis occurs. If it is not treated, it can worsen, turning into periodontitis, the most serious form of periodontium disease.

This disease causes inflammation of the gums, as well as sensitivity of the area and constant bleeding. Although the most serious signs occur when the tooth begins to move and the gum to retract.

Additionally, this dental specialty is responsible for replacing teeth that must be extracted for attachments called implants.

A dental implant is a prosthesis made of titanium that is inserted into the jawbone to replace one or more missing teeth.

Its placement requires a simple surgical procedure. Subsequently, it is necessary to wait for the implant to integrate into the bone (between three and six months) and once integrated, a crown is placed on top of it.
